The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has started looking into a self-proclaimed prophet, Godwin Sunday Ajuluchukwucheya, known as Prophet Sunday Koboko. He is accused of defrauding members of his church of N70.39m.

The EFCC shared this information in a statement on its official X account on Wednesday.

The agency's Enugu Zonal Directorate is investigating claims that Ajuluchukwucheya took money from his church members using various schemes. He promised them spiritual help and investment opportunities.

One person who complained, Okey Uwakwe, said Ajuluchukwucheya collected N6.23m from him for spiritual works. This was to convince his brother, who has been living abroad since 1997, to return to Nigeria.

Uwakwe also claimed that the prophet received N3.25m to perform spiritual works for his sister-in-law. She had been trying to have a child for over 15 years without success.

The EFCC reported that Uwakwe stated the cleric told church members he won N33bn in a lottery. He urged them to give money, assuring them they would earn dividends from this supposed winning.

Uwakwe said he contributed N3.35m to this scheme. He also added N500,000 for a rice-processing business that the prophet claimed was worth N1bn.

In total, Uwakwe claimed he gave the prophet N13.33m but received nothing in return. The EFCC mentioned that as the investigation continued, several other church members came forward with similar complaints.

Some members reported that the prophet sold items labeled “holy ghost thunder”, “miracle stickers”, and “spiritual dragons”. He promised that these items would bring prosperity and solve personal problems.

One victim of the prophet shared, "He asked me to buy what they called ‘holy ghost thunder’, believing it would fix my issues. I bought it, and after all the payments, nothing changed, and my problems continued.”

The EFCC confirmed that the total amount allegedly taken from church members is N70.39m. They said investigations are still ongoing. The suspect will face charges in court once the investigation is complete.
