Ekiti Elections 2026: Yiaga Africa Reports Good Supply of Voting Materials and Security

Credible election group Yiaga Africa has reported a strong supply of voting materials and security personnel in polling units during the ongoing Ekiti State governorship election.

In a midday update shared on its X handle, the group said it received reports from 247 of the 250 polling units it was watching. Most locations had key voting materials available by noon.

According to Yiaga Africa, voting cubicles were set up in 99 per cent of the polling units monitored. This shows that election officials mostly followed the rules meant to keep votes secret.

The group also noted that the Poster for Persons with Disabilities (PWD), known as Form EC 30E, was visible in 86 per cent of polling units. But they found lower numbers for the PWD Voter Information and Statistics Form (Form EC 40H), which was seen in 78 per cent of the polling units checked across the state.

These numbers suggest that while many polling units had materials to help voters with disabilities, there were still quite a few that did not meet the full requirements to support these voters.

Yiaga Africa also reported a strong presence of security personnel at polling centers. Their findings showed that security officers were present in 98 per cent of the polling units monitored by noon, indicating a good deployment of security agencies to help with the election.

Premium Times reported that police authorities stated between 3,000 to 4,000 police officers were assigned for the Ekiti governorship elections. Having security officers is important for managing elections in Nigeria, especially to maintain order at polling units and protect voters, officials, and materials.

Yiaga Africa mentioned that its reports were based on information from observers in 247 of the 250 polling units that had sent data by midday. Ekiti State has 1,059,360 registered voters and a Permanent Voter Card collection rate of 97.1 per cent, one of the highest rates seen in recent elections. The state has 2,445 polling units in total.

This latest update adds to ongoing checks by election observers who are looking at how elections are managed, voter access, and adherence to electoral rules across the state. Vote counting was still happening in many areas of the state at the time this report was written.
