Ekiti Governor Ends Political Appointments and Dissolves Boards

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has decided to dissolve boards, commissions, and parastatals in the state immediately.

The Governor also ended the appointments of all political aides.

A statement from the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, on Sunday, said this decision affects special assistants, senior special assistants, and technical assistants.

Mr. Oyebode explained that this step was necessary as the governor’s first term is coming to an end. His inauguration for a second term is set for 16 October.

Mr. Oyebanji was re-elected as Governor of Ekiti State on 20 June. This was confirmed by the final results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on 21 June.

The statement also mentioned that the dissolution does not apply to chairmen and members of statutory boards. This includes the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC), Civil Service Commission, House of Assembly Service Commission, and Judicial Service Commission.

The governing councils of all state-owned tertiary institutions will also stay the same, following earlier instructions from the governor.

The chairmen of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Local Government Service Commission, and Teaching Service Commission will keep their positions. Their boards have been dissolved, but they remain in office.

Directors-General and Technical Advisers to the governor are also not affected by the termination of appointments.

Mr. Oyebanji thanked the affected appointees for their hard work and contributions to his administration. He wished them all the best in their future plans.
