The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has rejected a group in the party that is said to be working with the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) to support Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s run for president.
This group, calling itself Stakeholders of the PDP and the APM in Ekiti State, held an event named “APM Awareness Campaign” in Ado Ekiti on Thursday. They claimed they had started mobilising support for Makinde’s presidential ambition.
Makinde is the APM presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
But the PDP State Chairman, Lanre Omolase, made it clear in a statement titled, “Ekiti PDP Disowns Makinde, APM,” issued in Ado Ekiti on Friday. He said the party has fully distanced itself from the group and their claims of mobilising support.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Ekiti State PDP, under my leadership, hereby distances itself completely from both the APM and any purported presidential mobilization project for Governor Seyi Makinde.
“No such mobilisation has been authorised, inaugurated, or undertaken by the Ekiti State PDP leadership,” he said. He added that the PDP, under his leadership, will not associate with Makinde.
He also stated, “The party therefore urges members, supporters, and the general public to treat any claim purporting to speak for the Ekiti State PDP without authorisation from its recognised leadership as a product of speculation and political mischief.
“The leadership further cautions individuals and groups against appropriating the name, structure, or authority of the Ekiti PDP to advance personal political interests.
“The PDP in Ekiti State remains committed to due process, institutional discipline, and the principle that only duly authorised organs and spokespersons can communicate its official positions,” Omolase stated.
The Ekiti PDP leadership urged the public “to exercise appropriate diligence before attributing political positions to the party, particularly on matters as important as presidential politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.”
