An elderly man, Muhammad Bello, is in the hospital after a vehicle hit him and ran away at Agbowa Community along Itoikin Road in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, shared this in a statement on Wednesday.
He said that Bello suffered serious injuries, including suspected fractures in both legs, from the accident that happened on Wednesday.
The incident took place around 2:10 p.m. after the agency got a distress call about an accident in the area.
The PS mentioned that the agency's LRT Lion Squad stationed at Agbowa was sent to the scene and got there in ten minutes.
“When they arrived, responders found Muhammad Bello lying by the roadside after a vehicle knocked him down and fled the scene right after,” he said.
The PS explained that the agency's paramedics did a quick check and found that the victim had severe injuries, including suspected fractures in both legs.
He added that they took the victim to the hospital for proper medical care.
Oke-Osanyintolu expressed sympathy for the victim and urged drivers to follow traffic rules, keep their vehicles in good shape, and show care for other road users.
He also encouraged everyone to report emergencies quickly by calling the toll-free lines 767 and 112 for fast help.
