The National Sports Commission and Enugu State Government will start checking facilities for the 2026 National Sports Festival on Wednesday. This inspection is part of the ongoing preparations for the event.
The inspection will take place from October 27 to 30. The NSC, the Local Organising Committee, and other groups will check the facilities and review plans for the Coal City Games.
The festival is set to run from November 27 to December 11.
The NSC mentioned that participants will arrive in Enugu on Tuesday, October 27, for the inspection of venues and facilities the next day.
The checks will continue with a technical meeting on Thursday, October 29, before the participants head back on Friday.
NSC chairman Shehu Dikko and director-general Bukola Olopade will lead the NSC team. The Enugu State team will be led by Commissioner for Sports Lloyd Ekweremadu.
Members of the Main Organising Committee, secretaries, and technical heads from national sports federations, zonal coordinators, state sports directors, and media representatives will also join.
The inspection aims to see how ready the facilities are, spot any challenges, and find areas needing work before the festival starts.
The technical meeting will let sports federations and organizers discuss what they need for the various events. It will also help improve coordination between the commission and the host state.
The National Sports Festival is a key multi-sport event in Nigeria. It brings together athletes from different states and the Federal Capital Territory.
With the start date getting closer, this inspection is part of making sure Enugu is ready to host the country’s athletes.
The NSC has not shared specific concerns about facilities before this inspection.
