Everton's American owners are thinking about selling the Premier League club. This comes less than two years after they took over.
The Friedkin Group, based in Texas, said on Friday they are looking into new investment options for the Liverpool club. They mentioned this includes the possible sale of a controlling interest.
The Friedkin Group owns Serie A club Roma as well. They paid around £400 million ($529 million) to buy Farhad Moshiri's 94.1 percent stake in December 2024. They also managed the move from Goodison Park to the new Hill Dickinson Stadium, which has a capacity of 53,000.
Everton's statement noted, "When TFG became custodians of Everton, the club faced significant financial uncertainty and challenges both on and off the pitch."
The statement continued, "With that foundation now safely in place, the time is right to consider the next chapter for Everton. We will only entertain interest from parties who we strongly believe will be the right stewards to take the club forward and build on the momentum that has been established."
Everton has been in the English top flight since 1954. They finished 13th in the last two Premier League seasons under manager David Moyes after facing difficult times.
But the owners faced criticism after a disappointing summer transfer window. A late deal to sign US striker Folarin Balogun fell through, leaving Everton with only one recognized striker, Thierno Barry.
In September, Moyes said he had never met or spoken to Dan Friedkin, the CEO of the Friedkin Group. Friedkin has not attended any home games yet.
Everton has nine titles and sits fifth on the all-time list of English top-flight winners. They are behind Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester City.
But their last title win was in 1987, and the Toffees have not lifted a trophy since winning the FA Cup in 1995.
