Ex-Nollywood Actress Grace Bassey Gets Engaged

Former Nollywood actress and US Navy officer Grace-Charis Bassey Effah has shared the news of her engagement to her partner.

Bassey posted the announcement on Facebook on Tuesday, sharing photos of herself and her fiancé. She did not reveal his name but highlighted her engagement ring in the pictures.

In her engagement announcement, she wrote, "Answered prayers. Age is just a number. Found someone worth calling life with, beyond blessed."

She added in another post, "It feels like a dream but when true love finds you, you melt."

This engagement is a new beginning for Bassey. She left Nollywood in 2025 to follow a military path in the United States.

Bassey joined the US Navy in May 2025 and graduated from Navy boot camp. She also became a US citizen after taking the oath of allegiance.

She dedicated this milestone to her late father, Asido Bassey Effah, who was a retired naval commander.

Before this, the actress had explained her decision to leave the movie industry. She said she was no longer fulfilled in acting. Bassey also mentioned that joining the US Navy was a lifelong dream for her. She had attended the Nigerian Navy Secondary School in Port Harcourt and came from a military family.

Bassey started her Nollywood journey in the 2005 TV series Shallow Waters. She later participated in the reality show Next Movie Star.

Throughout her acting career, she earned several awards, including the Most Promising Actor of the Year at the 9th Africa Movie Academy Awards.

In 2021, she announced her name change from Belinda to Grace-Charis. She described this change as a result of a divine encounter, noting that her new name holds a special meaning.
