The Kogi State Police have confirmed the identity of a female student found dead along the Lokoja-Abuja Highway. She was a final-year student at the Federal University Lokoja.

The victim, Sarah Idoko, was discovered on Saturday night near the Crusher area along the Felele axis of Lokoja. She was reportedly dumped there by unknown attackers.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing a vehicle stop briefly at the location around 8 p.m. before it drove off quickly.

Later, passers-by found her body by the roadside and alerted the police.

Initially, reports claimed that Sarah was a student of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, after an identity card with her name was found at the scene.

The card showed she was enrolled in the Higher National Diploma program in the Department of Office Technology Management for the 2024/2025 academic session.

But the police later confirmed that Sarah was indeed a student at the Federal University Lokoja.

Kogi State Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Kankarofi, confirmed the incident. He said investigations are ongoing to uncover the details of her death and to catch those responsible.

β€œThe command is working to establish the circumstances surrounding the death and track down those responsible,” the police commissioner stated.

He assured the public that the findings of the investigation will be shared at the right time. He also emphasized the police's commitment to achieving justice for Sarah.

The Association of Nigeria Female Students in Kogi State reacted strongly to the news. They condemned the killing, calling it cruel, unfortunate, and unacceptable.

In a statement signed by their State Coordinator, Celina James, the association expressed deep sadness about Sarah's death. They urged security agencies to carry out a thorough investigation to ensure that those behind the act are brought to justice.

The group also called on authorities to boost security around campuses and student areas to prevent similar events from happening.

β€œThe tragic death of Sarah Ojodomo has once again raised concerns about the safety and security of students and residents along the Felele corridor. This area is a major route to Lokoja and has seen several security issues over the years,” the association added.
