The Ogun State Police Command has charged five people in the Ota Magistrate Court. They are facing charges for attacking police officers who were doing their jobs in Ota, Ogun State.
A statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, was shared with PUNCH Online on Wednesday. The incident took place around The Bells area, Iyana-Iyesi, Ota, on October 2, 2026.
The police said, “The incident occurred when a police patrol team intercepted and arrested a suspect found in possession of a large quantity of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
“While conveying the handcuffed suspect to the station, the officers were allegedly ambushed by a group of persons who attacked them with cutlasses, stones and bottles.”
The statement added that the attack caused injuries to police officers, damaged the police vehicle, and allowed the suspect to escape.
The police then started an intelligence-led operation. They said, “following immediate intelligence-led operations, the Ogun State Police Command arrested five suspects: Morenikeji Badmus, 36; Adedoja Segun, 40; Jeremiah Odise Ugbede Onride, 49; Mike Stephen, 28; and David Odeh, 32.”
The suspects are facing charges of conspiracy, serious assault on police officers, obstruction of lawful duty, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
The police added, “Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects.”
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, reacted to the situation. He said, “The safety of police officers performing lawful duties remains a priority of the Command.”
He continued, “Members of the public are urged to refrain from physical confrontation with law enforcement personnel and channel grievances through established lawful channels.
