A part of the Siun-Ogere-Iperu Road in Ogun State is now underwater. This situation is making it hard for drivers to pass as parts of the road are getting worse.
This road connects Governor Dapo Abiodun's hometown to other areas in the state, but the Ajura section is particularly bad.
Our reporter saw that the flood has washed away the road and its edges.
This issue has worried many drivers, especially commercial drivers and those whose businesses rely on smooth travel along this route.
On Sunday, a driver named Quadri told PUNCH Metro that the road was fixed not long ago for the National Sports Festival in Ogun State, but it started falling apart soon after.
"They said they repaired this road recently. We don’t know how much they would have spent on it, but the repair started wearing out in weeks," he said.
Another driver named Shola mentioned that the road has been repaired several times since Governor Dapo Abiodun took over.
"They have come to repair this road like three times. But the first two times were like patchwork. The last time, we thought it was a better job until the road started wearing out weeks after," he said.
Shola pointed out that flooding is a common issue on this road. He said there are many water channels crossing different parts of the road, but there is no proper drainage.
"The road is a flood-prone area with several rivers and streams lining across different sections of the road. Still, there is no drainage," he said.
He also mentioned that similar drainage problems exist on the Kajola-Sagamu road. He added that some private people and companies had put in drainage in some areas.
"The road projects are generally poor," he said.
On the other hand, the Ogun State Government said it knows about the flooding and the bad road conditions. They have approved a plan for a full reconstruction and realignment of the road.
Kayode Akinmade, the Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to Abiodun, told PUNCH Metro on Sunday that the government is aware of the troubles on the Siun-Ogere-Iperu Road, especially the Ajura section.
Akinmade said the State Executive Council has given the go-ahead for the complete reconstruction and realignment of the road.
He explained that the reconstruction will raise the road profile and build a bigger box culvert to help water flow and fix the ongoing flooding and washout issues.
"The State Government is aware of the situation around the Siun-Ogere-Iperu Road, particularly the section close to Ajura.
"It is important to clarify that the full reconstruction and realignment of the Siun-Ogere-Iperu Road was awarded at the last meeting of the State Executive Council.
"As part of the reconstruction, the alignment at the affected location will be modified, the road profile will be raised, and a bigger box culvert will be provided to improve water flow and address the recurring flooding and washout at that section," Akinmade said.
He added that the road work done recently was just a temporary fix before the National Sports Festival, which Ogun hosted in May 2025.
The festival took place in Abeokuta, Sagamu, Ikenne, and Ijebu-Ode.
Akinmade said that the temporary work was meant to make travel easier during the festival, while the newly approved reconstruction aims to offer a lasting solution to the problems.
"The work recently carried out on the road was undertaken ahead of the National Sports Festival to improve access and movement during the event.
"The comprehensive reconstruction now approved is designed to provide a more permanent solution to the challenges at the affected sections of the road," he said.
For now, drivers still have to deal with floodwater and bad road sections as they wait for the reconstruction to start.
Ogun State Government’s records show that the Siun Junction-Iperu Junction Road had been fixed before, with a 2022 project marked as completed.
