Tickets for the big boxing match between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua have sold out in just one hour. More than 500,000 fans were reportedly waiting online to grab a ticket.

According to BBC Sport on Friday, about 80,000 tickets were available for the fight. It is set to take place at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium in Wales on December 11. The main event is expected to start in the early hours of December 12.

The tickets went on sale at 12:00 BST on Friday. Prices ranged from £88.50 to £13,128, which includes booking fees.

The fight will be shown worldwide on Netflix. It was announced in September and is being promoted through a partnership between Saudi boxing promoter Turki Alalshikh’s The Ring and UFC chief Dana White.

After the tickets sold out, they quickly appeared on resale websites. Ringside VIP seats were listed for as high as £73,645, while upper-tier seats were going for £425.

The ringwalks for the main event are expected to start around 01:00 GMT on Saturday, December 12. There will also be a live music performance before the fight. The stadium will stay open until 03:30 GMT.

Fury, 38, and Joshua, 36, are both former two-time world champions. They signed contracts for this fight earlier this year, but the date and venue were not confirmed at that time.

Wembley Stadium in London and Madison Square Garden in New York were both considered as possible venues. In the end, Cardiff was chosen as the location.

The Principality Stadium has hosted major late-night boxing events before. For example, Joe Calzaghe fought Mikkel Kessler there in November 2007, which started at 01:00 GMT.

Ricky Hatton’s win over Kostya Tszyu at Manchester’s MEN Arena in 2005 also started around 02:00 local time to fit into US broadcaster Showtime’s schedule.

The announcement of the Fury-Joshua fight came after some confusion over its promotion. There was a dispute about White’s role in organizing the event.

Netflix said that Alalshikh’s The Ring and White would promote the fight together. But Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, claimed that White could not take on a promotional role due to Joshua’s contract.

Fury and Joshua met at a news conference on September 30 to kick off the build-up to what many see as one of the biggest fights in British boxing history.

They are expected to share a purse close to $200 million (£151 million).

Organisers have not yet announced the undercard fights.
