Galatasaray is reaching out to Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen to help them sign fellow Nigerian player Ademola Lookman. They want Osimhen to use his influence to persuade Lookman to move to Istanbul this summer, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
Turkish football site Fotomac says Galatasaray is very interested in bringing Lookman from Atlético Madrid. The 28-year-old has been impressive at Atlético since joining from Atalanta for €35 million in January. Lookman has scored five goals and provided four assists in 24 matches for Diego Simeone's team. His goals helped the club reach the UEFA Champions League semi-finals and the Copa del Rey final, including crucial goals against Barcelona in both tournaments.
Galatasaray's choice to involve Osimhen shows how tough this transfer will be.
Atlético Madrid has already lost Antoine Griezmann and is dealing with talks about Julian Álvarez and Alexander Sørloth leaving. They would be very hesitant to let another big player go.
Lookman's ability to play in different positions and his scoring make him a player Simeone is unlikely to let go without a fight.
The financial side of this deal is also a major hurdle. Lookman's salary in Spain is much higher than what most Galatasaray players earn, except for Osimhen, who makes €21 million a year. To close this salary gap, Galatasaray would need to think outside the box.
Osimhen's ties to Galatasaray are well-known. The 27-year-old has praised the club and its fans since he arrived on loan in the 2024/25 season. His permanent move for €75 million was completed last summer.
Lookman has been connected to clubs like Inter Milan, Fenerbahçe, and Galatasaray at different times in his career. The big question is whether Galatasaray can put together an attractive offer that might convince Atlético Madrid to let him go, with or without Osimhen's help.
