Spanish club Getafe has officially offered to sign Jadon Sancho. The 26-year-old is looking for a new club after leaving Manchester United.
Sancho is now a free agent since his contract ended in the summer. Many clubs are said to be interested in signing the former England international.
According to BBC Sport on Thursday, reaching an agreement with Getafe is tricky. Still, the La Liga team wants to sort things out and improve their squad.
Sancho is eager to leave England but is open to different options as he thinks about his next move in football.
He joined Manchester United from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 for £73 million. But he had a hard time making a mark at Old Trafford and spent time on loan at Dortmund, Chelsea, and Aston Villa.
Last season, Sancho played 39 times for Aston Villa. Under Unai Emery, the team had a good season, winning the Europa League and qualifying for the Champions League. He also came on as a substitute in Villa’s win over Freiburg in the Europa League final. This marked his third appearance in a European final in three seasons.
During the 2024-25 season, he was loaned to Chelsea with an obligation to buy. However, Chelsea paid a £5 million fee to send him back to Manchester United after he played 41 matches for them.
While looking for his next club, Sancho has kept training. He often shares videos of his training on Instagram. He recently went to visit Flixton, a non-league team, which led the club to clarify that he was not on trial there.
Getafe is currently 14th in La Liga and is also in the Europa Conference League this season. They want to strengthen their team and could give Sancho a chance to get his career back on track in Spain.
Earlier this week, Getafe signed former Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal on a free transfer. The 34-year-old right-back has won 27 trophies with Madrid, including six Champions League titles. He signed a contract that lasts until June 2027.
Even though Getafe has made a move for Sancho, talks are still going on. It is not clear if both sides will come to an agreement.
