Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has approved the appointment of six new permanent secretaries. This move aims to boost the leadership of the state’s Civil/Public Service and continue ongoing public sector reforms.

The appointments were announced on Friday by the Head of Service, Mr I O Saka. They fill positions left by the retirement of former permanent secretaries.

The new permanent secretaries are Dr Solomon Oluseyi Sokunbi, Mr Abiodun Oladunjoye Akinwunmi, Mr Adedeji Akanbi Sowunmi, Mr Olumide Olusola Ogunbo, Mr Dolamu Isaiah Idowu-Agida, and Musinat Abiola Ayodele.

Mr Saka said the appointments are in line with Section 208(c) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended). He noted that the governor made these choices after considering merit, professionalism, and inclusiveness.

He explained that all six appointees completed the Ogun State Pipeline Leadership Development Programme. This program is a requirement for top public service leadership roles, including the position of Permanent Secretary.

Before this appointment, Dr Sokunbi was the Director of Hospital Services in the Ministry of Health. Mr Akinwunmi served as the Director of Chieftaincy Affairs in the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. Mr Sowunmi was the Director of Investments in the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investments.

Mr Ogunbo managed projects at the Ogun State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWATSAN). Mr Idowu-Agida was the Director of Administration and Supplies in the Bureau of Government House and General Services. Abiola Ayodele worked as the Director of Urban Development in the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.

Mr Saka added that these appointments are part of the Abiodun administration's plan to strengthen institutional capacity. This will help ensure a more efficient and result-oriented Civil/Public Service.

He also mentioned that the new Permanent Secretaries must show strong leadership, integrity, and dedication in their work. They are expected to align with the administration's Building Our Future Together Agenda.

“The appointees are expected to contribute meaningfully to the continued transformation of the Ogun State Civil/Public Service and support the delivery of effective governance for the benefit of the people,” the statement said.

The Head of Service concluded by saying that Governor Abiodun will swear in the new Permanent Secretaries on a date that will be announced later.
