Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has stepped in to support ailing Nollywood actress Ngozi Nwosu with her medical bills.
Ngozi Nwosu, who hails from Abia, recently asked Nigerians for ₦30 million. She needs this money for surgeries related to an undisclosed illness.
The 62-year-old actress shared that she spent three weeks in the hospital. She called on Nigerians to help her get through this tough time.
Justice “JMartins” Martins, who is Otti’s Senior Special Assistant on Tourism and Entertainment, made the announcement on his X page on Tuesday night. He expressed gratitude on behalf of the creative industry and asked Nigerians to support Nwosu however they can.
He wrote, “His Excellency Alex Otti has just stepped in on the health issues of our legendary Nollywood actress, Mrs Ngozi Nwosu, to approve the first part of our medical bills. While we sincerely appreciate His Excellency, we still appeal to kind-hearted Nigerians to please support her in any way possible. On behalf of the creative industry, we all thank you immensely, my leader.”
Nwosu's appeal for funds comes 13 years after she faced serious health issues related to her kidneys and heart. Back then, the Lagos State Government helped her with ₦4.5 million for her treatment.
In 2013, Nwosu, known for her role in the soap opera “Fuji House of Commotion”, traveled to the UK for surgery. She collected ₦2.5 million from generous people to add to the ₦6 million needed for the procedure.
Nwosu is a respected veteran in the acting world. She is famous for her work in television series and films over many years.
Since she started acting in the television series “Ripples”, where she played Madam V Boot, Nwosu has featured in over 100 movies. Her film credits include “Circle of Doom”, “Fake Doctor”, “A Cry for Help”, “Tanbolo”, “Silent Baron”, “Ije Awele”, and “The Smart Money Woman”, among others.
