The Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, visited the family of Ummulkhairi Aliyu on Saturday. A mob in Maraban Jos, Igabi Local Government Area, killed Ms Aliyu. During his visit to the family’s home, Mr Sani promised that those who killed her would face justice. He met with Ms Aliyu’s husband, Malam Aliyu, and other family members, sharing his condolences over this tragic loss.

While addressing the grieving family, Mr Sani assured them that the state government would not let the killers escape justice. He revealed that 41 suspects had been arrested, and security agencies were working hard to catch others involved.

The governor also mentioned that an investigation was ongoing to see if any police officer was part of the incident. He warned that anyone found guilty would be prosecuted.

Mr Sani did not stop at seeking justice. He announced that he would support Ms Aliyu’s husband and take care of the welfare and education of her children until they grow up. "I will personally stand by this family. The children will not be abandoned," the governor promised.

He prayed for the peaceful rest of Ms Aliyu’s soul and encouraged the family to stay strong despite their loss.

Governor Sani’s visit brought cheers from the residents. Many lined the streets to greet his convoy as it arrived and left the community.

Several residents told PREMIUM TIMES that the governor’s visit showed he cared and reassured them that the government was serious about getting justice for Ms Aliyu. Others were thankful for his promise to help the family, especially his commitment to look after Ms Aliyu’s children.

Many residents condemned the mob action. They called it barbaric and shameful, saying it went against the community's values. They urged security agencies to make sure everyone involved in the killing faces prosecution to prevent future incidents of jungle justice.

"We are happy that the governor came here himself instead of just sending a message. His visit has given this family hope that justice will be done," said Hassan Banaga.

Another resident, Balkisu Umar, condemned the killing. She stated that no one should die in such a way. "What happened to Ummulkhairi was heartbreaking and unacceptable. Even if someone is accused of theft, there are police and courts to handle such matters. Those responsible must be punished so that this kind of jungle justice never happens again," she said.

A community elder, Malam Yakubu, praised the governor’s actions. "The entire community has been traumatized by this incident. We appreciate the governor for standing with the family and assuring us that justice will prevail. We want everyone involved, no matter who they are, to face the law."

Governor Sani stressed that his administration would not accept lawlessness or mob violence. He said every Nigerian deserves legal protection, regardless of the allegations against them.

He assured residents that all suspects already arrested would be prosecuted and that efforts to catch the remaining suspects would continue until everyone connected to the crime is brought to court. The governor asked people to stay calm, cooperate with security agencies, and let the judicial process unfold. He emphasized that justice for Ms Aliyu would not be compromised.

A mob in Maraban Jos reportedly killed Ms Aliyu, accusing her of stealing a mobile phone. Witnesses said the situation got out of control before law enforcement could intervene.

Videos and photographs shared on social media sparked nationwide outrage. Many Nigerians called the incident a disturbing case of jungle justice. Human rights advocates, religious leaders, and community groups condemned the killing, insisting no theft accusation justifies taking the law into one’s own hands. They called on authorities to ensure that everyone responsible is found and punished.
