Pep Guardiola's last years at Manchester City are highlighted in a new Amazon Prime documentary. This film talks about his issues with captain Kyle Walker and the effects of his divorce. It shows Guardiola struggling with his emotions and asking if it was time to leave City after a decade.

One key moment reported by GB News on Tuesday is Walker's move to AC Milan on loan in January 2025. He told Guardiola he wanted a new challenge. Before a home game against Chelsea, Guardiola expressed sadness over Walker's exit and questioned his leadership as captain.

He said, "So sad, what happened with Kyle. It was so easy for him to come to me [and say] ‘I’m tired’. But you cannot behave as a captain the way he has done it. You cannot, in the toughest moments in our lives. What did you do my friends? What did you do with your captain? Tell me, what did you do?"

The documentary also shows a tense moment after City lost to Liverpool in December 2024. Walker lost the ball to Luis Diaz, who then won a penalty. Guardiola criticized Walker in the dressing room. "Kyle has to know that if you lose the ball it’s a goal," he said angrily.

An annoyed Walker replied, "Every meeting, it’s my name." Guardiola shot back, "Maybe because you’re a captain." Walker then said, "OK. You didn’t want me to be your captain."

This argument happened during a tough time for Guardiola, who had seen City lose four matches in a row for the first time in his career. Even though he signed a contract extension in November 2024, the documentary shows he nearly left the club. Guardiola shared that he told City, "maybe it’s over."

Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak described the situation as a real concern. He said, "You know the boy that cried wolf? He is the boy that cried wolf. I always convince him, but last year, I knew, this time he actually saw the wolf."

Guardiola was also facing his divorce during City's tough 2024-25 season. His close friend Manel Estiarte said players began to worry about Guardiola's emotional state. "They were worried because Pep was anxious," Estiarte said. "He was sad. He was different. And only I knew the reason."

Estiarte added, "And I said to the team, ‘please, you have to understand, you’re not playing with a coach who can be a bit impulsive, who can be a bit intense, who can be sometimes up and down. You’re seeing a human being. He’s getting a divorce.’"

The pressure was evident in Guardiola's talks with the team. After a loss to Bayer Leverkusen in November 2025, he told the players, "I work for you and I leave my life, my divorce and my family is away and everything for all of you. And what do you give back? The performance you have done, all of you. It’s a disgrace guys. When I see that, I am exhausted, I’m drained, I want to quit. When you play like this, I feel alone."

The documentary also touches on other exits during City’s rebuilding phase, including Kevin De Bruyne's departure after ten years with the club. Guardiola admitted this decision "kills me."

PUNCH Online reports that Guardiola eventually left after ten years at City. During his time, he won 20 trophies, with the FA Cup and League Cup being the last honors of his career there.
