Gunmen Attack Miners in Plateau, Five Feared Dead

At least five miners are feared dead and two others are injured after gunmen attacked them at a mining site in Plateau State.

The incident happened around 1pm on Saturday at Marit village in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.

Sources say the miners were working when the attack happened. This has left the community in mourning and raised new worries about the safety of people in the area.

Rwang Tengwong, who is the National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association, confirmed the attack. He said five people were killed and two others were injured.

“It is a very sad and painful development. Our people are once again mourning the loss of lives to violence,” Tengwong said. He urged security agencies to do more to protect communities and stop this from happening again.

A local resident, Simon Mundat, also spoke about the attack. He described it as devastating.

“We are deeply saddened by this attack. We appeal to authorities to strengthen security in the area so that our people can go about their legitimate activities without fear,” he said.

As of the time of writing this report, there was no official confirmation from security agencies about the attack.
