Gunmen kill former security chief in Rivers

Mr Kine was shot dead by unknown gunmen on Polytechnic Road in Bori, Khana, around 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Blessing Agabe, the police spokesperson, confirmed this to reporters in Port Harcourt on Monday. Ms Agabe, who is an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said the attackers ran away before the police arrived.

The police have taken the victim's body to a mortuary. It will be kept there until an autopsy is done as investigations into the murder continue.

"The Rivers State Police Command has started a full investigation to find and punish those responsible for this crime," she said.

Ms Agabe asked Mr Kine's family to report the incident to the police. This will help with the investigations and ensure justice is served. "Letting the police know will support ongoing investigations and help deliver justice quickly," she added.

She assured the public that the command is dedicated to finding, arresting, and prosecuting everyone involved in the murder.

The Chairman of Khana Local Government, Thomas Bariere, reacted to the news by condemning the killing as a "senseless act of violence."

Mr Bariere called Mr Kine's murder "heartbreaking" and said that such violence has no place in a peaceful society. He was worried that this happened just weeks after the murder of Clement Deegbara from Kpong Community.

"The repeated attacks show that armed criminal gangs want to disrupt peace and security in Khana LGA," he said.

The chairman urged security agencies to step up their operations in Khana. He wants them to quickly catch those behind the attacks. He also asked that anyone found guilty be prosecuted, while sending his condolences to Mr Kine's family.

Mr Bariere prayed for strength for the grieving family and asked residents to stay calm. He called on the public to be watchful and to give security agencies timely and reliable information.

The chairman emphasized that protecting lives and property is a top priority for his administration.
