Residents of Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, were scared on Tuesday after some unknown gunmen fired shots in different parts of the city.
Eyewitnesses said the sound of the gunfire made people, traders, drivers, and passersby run for cover to avoid being caught up in the chaos.
As of the time of this report, the reason for the shooting was still not clear. There was no official information about deaths, injuries, or arrests related to the incident.
This situation has raised worries about safety and political violence in the state. It comes after recent reports of violent events in Osogbo and nearby areas.
The Osun State Police Command confirmed that they were aware of the incident. They said officers had been sent to gather information.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, mentioned that they could not say if the shooting had any political link.
"We are aware that there was shooting in some parts of the state, but whether it is branded with whatever party, that is what I donβt know because we have not seen any traces to that. Our control men are out now to gather some facts," he said.
