The third GymFest Championship, called Africa’s top gymnastics event, will hold at The Dome, Freedom Way, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos State, on Saturday, November 7.
Tee Tumblers Gymnastics Club and the Society for the Performing Arts in Nigeria are putting together the event. The organisers have announced a new look for the championship and are now inviting athletes, schools, and partners to join in.
In the last two editions, over 600 athletes, 20 schools, and more than 60 certified coaches participated. The events attracted more than 2,000 spectators, supported by over 20 volunteers, and both editions had no issues.
Schools, clubs, and coaches can register their gymnasts to compete. Parents and fans are also welcome to attend. Brands looking to connect with young athletes, families, and schools can team up with the organisers through the various sponsorship options available.
Entry is by ticket only, with each competing gymnast paying N20,000 and spectators paying N5,000.
Yoyin Akpose, co-convener and founder of Tee Tumblers Gymnastics Club, said the event aims to create more chances for young Nigerians.
“Every child should have the opportunity to participate in gymnastics. There is so much talent in Nigeria that we are not even close to harnessing, and we need to create more awareness and opportunities for these children to thrive,” she said.
“The dream is to create the right structure and standards for gymnastics in Nigeria, so that our young gymnasts can compete internationally and Nigeria can produce more athletes capable of representing the country on the world stage.”
Sarah Boulos, chief executive of the Society for the Performing Arts in Nigeria, noted that the championship builds discipline and confidence in young people through dedication, arts, and athletics.
“Through dedication, arts, and athletics, we build discipline and international confidence. Every partner who joins us becomes part of an enduring legacy,” the co-convener said.
