Eddie Hearn, the promoter, has said that the fight between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury will definitely happen. He stated that the contract for the match is already signed, so no one can back out.
In an interview with DAZN, Hearn said the fight is getting closer after many months of talks. He pointed out that the only thing that could stop it now is if the signed agreement is broken.
"We’ve signed the contract, we’re waiting for a date. You saw Tyson Fury shouting and screaming. There’s nothing to shout and scream about, the fight’s done," he said.
Hearn added, "The fight’s signed. No one can pull out of the fight. You can’t just pull out of a contract."
These comments came after Fury suggested that the fight might not happen because Joshua wanted more money. Hearn dismissed this, saying that both sides had already signed the contracts.
He explained that while it is possible for the deal to be broken, this would lead to a legal fight. Joshua cannot just decide not to follow the agreement without facing consequences.
"There’s no suggestion that the fight’s not happening, no one can stop this fight from happening. The only way it can stop from happening is if they actually breach the contract," he said.
Hearn also mentioned that the main issue now is where the fight will take place. Joshua's contract says the fight should happen in the UK, but the Saudi-backed promoters want it at Madison Square Garden in New York.
He said Joshua is open to the idea of having the fight in America, but only if the terms are changed.
"We know everybody and his dog involved in the fight wants to do the fight in America. We don’t," he said. "We’ve told Sela and the team if you want to do it in America, these are the terms that we can move forward with. But we’d rather not, please."
Joshua has a professional record of 30 wins, four losses, and 27 knockouts. Fury has a record of 36 wins, two losses, one draw, and 25 knockouts.
