Investments in Nigeria's free trade zones have now reached $35 billion. This was revealed by the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA). The agency said this amount shows a huge increase in interest from local and foreign investors.
NEPZA's Managing Director, Adesoji Adesugba, spoke at a recent event in Abuja. He noted that the figure reflects a steady growth in capital investments within the zones. Adesugba also said the zones are important for Nigeria's economic development.
According to Adesugba, the free trade zones create jobs and help boost local industries. He pointed out that the zones allow businesses to operate without the usual government regulations. This makes it easier for companies to invest and grow.
The Managing Director highlighted the role of these zones in increasing Nigeria's export capacity. He mentioned that the free trade zones have supported over 500,000 jobs since their establishment. These zones are also attracting attention from international businesses.
In the past year, NEPZA has worked to attract more investments. They have introduced new policies to make it easier for investors. This includes improving infrastructure and offering tax incentives.
Adesugba also noted that the government is committed to making the zones more effective. He said that plans are in place to enhance security and services within the zones. This will make it more appealing for companies to set up operations there.
The NEPZA boss emphasized that the zones are designed to boost Nigeria's economy. He explained that they provide a platform for companies to export goods and services. This, in turn, raises Nigeria's profile in the global market.
He called on investors to take advantage of the opportunities available in these zones. The government is looking to create a conducive environment for business to thrive. Adesugba believes this will lead to more investments in the future.
With these developments, Nigeria aims to strengthen its position as a trade hub in West Africa. The free trade zones are seen as a key part of this strategy. Investors are encouraged to explore the potential benefits of operating in these areas.
