Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi has promised members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in the state that their safety and welfare are a priority. He spoke about improving facilities at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Fanisau, Dutse.

The governor made this promise on Monday during his visit to Batch C, Stream 1 corps members at the orientation camp. He welcomed them to Jigawa State and urged them to contribute positively to their host communities.

Namadi called the NYSC scheme a key part of national unity and youth development. He said it is one of the most important programs aimed at promoting national integration, understanding, discipline, and patriotism among Nigerian youths.

He encouraged corps members to embrace the culture and traditions of their host communities. He asked them to use their service year to make a positive impact on society.

“Your service year should not be viewed merely as a requirement for obtaining your NYSC discharge certificate. Rather, it should be considered a life-changing opportunity to make a lasting, positive difference in the lives of the people you encounter,” the governor said.

Namadi explained that the state’s 12-Point Agenda focuses on education, healthcare, agriculture, and the digital economy. He urged corps members posted to schools, health facilities, and other institutions across the 27 local government areas to carry out their duties with dedication.

He also encouraged them to join the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme. This will help them explore opportunities in agribusiness and other enterprises during and after their service.

While discussing the orientation camp, the governor mentioned several improvements. These include renovations to the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Multipurpose Hall and male and female hostels. The government also provided 500 mattresses, 200 blankets, and three large cooking pots.

Other improvements include a 100 KVA generator, 10 solar-powered security lights, and a perimeter wall with barbed wire, especially next to the railway station. He revealed that the government started building the fence in 2026 due to the ongoing railway project by the federal government.

Namadi added that contracts were recently awarded to renovate two-bedroom flats, classrooms, toilet facilities, and a six-bedroom Block D building for NYSC staff.

The governor assured the corps members and the state NYSC management that his administration will continue to support the scheme. He emphasized the importance of providing the necessary facilities and security for a safe and comfortable service year.

To ensure corps members integrate smoothly into their primary assignments, Namadi directed all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) and Local Government Councils not to reject corps members posted to them.

“I hereby direct all Ministries, Departments, Agencies (MDAs), and Local Government Councils across Jigawa State not to reject any Corps Member posted to them,” he said.

“I charge our traditional rulers, local government chairmen, and community leaders to protect, mentor, and treat all Corps members in their domains as their sons and daughters,” the governor added.

Namadi urged corps members to maintain discipline, integrity, humility, and patriotism during their service year. He advised them to avoid social vices, cultism, and unauthorized travel.
