A leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in Jigawa State, Umar Danjani, has warned that the people of the state might suffer for four years if the party does not win the 2027 general elections.
Danjani believes the party's candidates have the experience and skills needed to bring back the state’s pride and boost its development.
His warning comes as political activities heat up for the 2027 elections. Political parties and their candidates are working hard to show voters that they can provide good governance.
Danjani, who was the PDP State Deputy Chairman until recently and is running for the Hadejia/Auyo/Kafin-Hausa Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives, shared his thoughts in Hausa on Facebook on Tuesday.
He said that losing the governorship election would hurt not just the party's candidates but everyone in Jigawa State.
“Even if a governorship election is held today and the PDP loses, it will not just be the party’s candidates who will suffer. The people of Jigawa State will pay the price, enduring four years of regret,” Danjani said.
Danjani praised the party’s national and regional leader, Sule Lamido. He called Lamido one of the most dedicated politicians in Northern Nigeria and said few leaders care as much about the people's welfare.
He noted that Lamido’s ideas, commitment to the public, and governance record set him apart from other politicians in the area.
Danjani also referred to the former Jigawa governor as “the best performing governor in Northern Nigeria during his time,” saying he improved the state’s image both nationally and internationally.
Danjani said the achievements of Lamido's administration set a standard that later political leaders have struggled to meet. He emphasized that Lamido's contributions are still significant in Jigawa’s political history.
Talking about the PDP’s leadership, Danjani mentioned that the party has experienced and qualified people who can lead well.
He pointed out that there are former state lawmakers, former commissioners, and even people with doctoral degrees among its leaders.
Danjani highlighted the background of the party’s Director-General of Campaign. He described him as “an experienced political activist, businessman, former member of the Jigawa State House of Assembly and former permanent secretary, whose experience could boost the party’s campaign.”
He said the PDP’s governorship candidate is also fit for the job, describing him as “a traditional ruler, businessman, and political heir with three degrees in political studies.”
Danjani painted the candidate as a young politician who is popular among the voters.
On the party’s deputy governorship candidate, he said the man has vast public service experience, reaching the top of the state's civil service as Head of the Jigawa State Civil Service.
Danjani also mentioned the qualifications of the party’s senatorial candidate for Jigawa South-West, Sulaiman Abba, a former senior police officer who became an Inspector-General of Police.
He presented Abba’s experience as proof of the quality of people in the party.
The PDP chieftain claimed the party has a special advantage in legislative experience, saying it is the only party in Nigeria with three candidates who have all served as Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly.
Speaking about his own political journey, Danjani said, “Even though I am among the younger candidates, my record of political involvement, public service, and relationships sets me apart from my rivals.”
He added, “My political journey includes being a state party deputy chairman, a role I earned because of my ability to connect with people and my work to help free oppressed individuals from prison.”
Danjani, who comes from a strong political family, concluded that a PDP win in the 2027 elections would mean more than just a party victory.
“A PDP victory would give Jigawa residents a chance to regain their dignity, pride, and confidence in the state’s future,” he said.
He urged voters to think about the experience and qualifications of the party’s candidates when making their decisions at the polls.
