Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua said he feels no regret about the damage he caused Jake Paul in their December 2025 fight. This was reported by PUNCH Sports Extra.
When asked about Paul possibly retiring, Joshua smiled and said, "I think that’s what was asked of me, and I think I delivered," during an appearance on the Mr Verzace Podcast.
In their match in Miami, Joshua broke Paul’s jaw in two places during the sixth round. Paul now has two titanium plates in his jaw and a boxing record of 12 wins and 2 losses.
Since that fight, Paul has not fought again. He recently told journalist Ariel Helwani that his boxing career might be over.
Joshua's Mission
Before his next fight against Kristian Prenga in Saudi Arabia on July 25, Joshua shared that he had a clear mission going into the fight against Paul.
He said, "There was a strict message that was given, and a task that was laid upon me, and that was to get rid of Jake Paul and remove him from our beloved sport."
He added, "Whether that took me one round or six rounds, I believe the job was well and truly done."
Joshua also mentioned that the fight helped revive his career. He had been out of the ring for over a year after losing to Daniel Dubois in September 2024.
“I come back to Miami on the biggest stage, and people see that light, that energy. A lot of people said, ‘That’s the guy we knew,’ and it felt good to be back,” he said.
Personal Tragedy
After the fight with Paul, Joshua was involved in a serious car accident in Nigeria that killed two close friends and team members, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele. He was a passenger in that vehicle.
Now, Joshua is focused on his fight against Prenga in July. After that, he is looking forward to a big matchup against Tyson Fury later this year. Fury returned to the ring in April after 16 months, winning a points match against Arslanbek Makhmudov. Both promoters, Frank Warren and Eddie Hearn, have confirmed a deal for the Fury-Joshua fight, which is expected to happen in November.
Joshua believes the fight with Fury is important, but it is just one of many fights he wants before he retires. He aims to win a third world heavyweight title.
“I need another title,” he said.
“I made a decision for myself. This is my purpose. I’m talented, I’m quite smart, I can do a lot of things, but I want to use all my energy and align my focus and just be a champion again.”
