The Hisbah Board in Kano State has banned people from downloading and sharing movies on mobile phones throughout the state.
The board said this is to protect public morals and support Islamic values.
This rule affects all 44 local government areas in Kano. The Deputy Commander General of the board, Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen, shared the news in a WhatsApp message on Thursday.
"The Hisbah board has banned downloading and distribution of movies through mobile phones across the 44 local government areas in the state," he stated.
Aminuddeen explained that the decision came after complaints that some businesses were sharing pornographic films and other videos that go against Islamic teachings and the cultural values of Kano.
He warned that Hisbah officials are ready to enforce this ban and check compliance.
"The board has deployed its personnel to monitor compliance through routine patrols and enforcement operations across the state.
"Anyone found violating the directive will face legal action in accordance with the laws of Kano State," the Deputy Commander added.
He advised those affected by the ban to look for other lawful ways to earn a living. He emphasized that this measure is to protect young people from harmful content and to preserve societal values.
Aminuddeen pointed out that the rise in moral decline among youths is connected to the watching of indecent films and videos.
The Kano State Hisbah Board enforces Sharia laws in the state. In recent years, it has introduced various measures to encourage Islamic values and public morality.
These measures include restrictions on activities and content that contradict the state's religious and cultural standards.
