Kano Pillars, the four-time Nigeria Premier Football League champions, have named Daniel Ogunmodede as their new Technical Adviser. This appointment comes ahead of the 2026/2027 season, according to Saturday PUNCH.
The club shared the news on its official X account on Friday. This ends the chatter about who would lead the Sai Masu Gida for the upcoming season.
"We’ve reached an agreement to appoint Daniel Ogunmodede (Ijaball) as our new Technical Adviser ahead of the 2026-2027 football season. Welcome to Kano and the Sai Masu Gida family. We are happy to have you with us," the club said.
Ogunmodede, who is 46 years old and known as Ijaball, holds a UEFA B Licence. He comes to Pillars after a successful time with Remo Stars. He led them to their first-ever NPFL title in the 2024-2025 season, ending a long wait for the Ikenne-based team.
He left his role as Technical Adviser at Remo Stars towards the end of last season. During his time there, he saw one of the most successful phases in the club’s history. He also worked as an assistant to Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, a job he will continue alongside his new role.
Isma’eel Tangalashi, the club’s Media Director, said this appointment is part of a plan to strengthen the technical team and boost performance in Nigerian and African competitions.
Ogunmodede replaces Muhammad Babaganaru and takes over a Kano Pillars team that just avoided relegation. They finished 15th in the 2025/2026 NPFL season with 48 points from 38 matches.
With Ogunmodede's arrival, he will also work with Ahmed Musa, a former Super Eagles captain and one of the team’s key players.
Kano Pillars is expected to officially introduce the new coach soon as they prepare for the new league season.
