The Kebbi State Police have arrested seven suspected bandits linked to ongoing investigations in Bagudo Local Government Area. This includes the recent killing of three Federal Road Safety Corps personnel.

A statement from the police on Monday shared with reporters detailed that the arrests happened on June 5. The operation focused on criminal networks in the Soda Forest area and nearby border communities.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, stated that these arrests are part of efforts to break down banditry networks. The goal is to disrupt the supply chains that support criminal activities in the region.

Mobile Police operatives on patrol along the Illo-Lolo Road caught three suspects on a Haojue motorcycle. They were traveling from the Soda Forest area towards border communities.

"Preliminary investigations show that the suspects were allegedly trying to get food supplies for criminals hiding in the forest," Usman said.

The suspects are Muhammadu Bande, Aliyu Abubakar, and Muhammadu Aliyu. The motorcycle they used was also seized.

In another operation along the Bakin Ruwa-Ka’oje area, security operatives arrested four more suspects. They are Haruna Abubakar, Abubakar Lawali, Anme Shehu, and Yahaya Shehu.

The police spokesman mentioned that all suspects are in custody while investigations continue. They aim to find out how involved these suspects are in local criminal activities.

"The suspects are in police custody while we investigate further to uncover the full extent of their activities and any links to the attacks that led to the deaths of three Federal Road Safety Corps personnel," he added.

He also noted that the suspects will be taken to court after the investigations are finished.

Kebbi State Police Commissioner, CP Umar M. Hadejia, called the arrests a big achievement in the fight against banditry and violent crime.

"These arrests mark a significant operational success in our ongoing fight against banditry and violent crime in Kebbi State," Hadejia said.

He praised the operatives for their professionalism and hard work, and he thanked the public for their support.

"I commend the operatives for their professionalism, resilience, and dedication. I also appreciate the public for their timely and credible information that helped in this operation," the commissioner added.

Hadejia promised that the police will keep working on intelligence-driven operations to break down criminal networks and bring peace back to the affected communities.

"The Command is committed to ensuring that criminals do not have the freedom to operate and to restore lasting peace across affected areas. We urge residents to stay alert and continue to provide security agencies with useful information, which we will treat confidentially," he said.

The police will give more updates as investigations move forward.
