The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has held a large rally in Ilorin to seek support for President Bola Tinubu, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and the party’s governorship candidate, Salihu Yakubu-Danladi.
The rally, which the organisers claimed was a 20,000-man march, saw party members and supporters from Ilorin West, Ilorin East, Ilorin South, Asa, and Moro local government areas join in.
Suleiman Sai Kayi, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Political Matters, organised the rally to show support for the APC leadership and its candidates ahead of the 2026 elections.
The procession started at the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital Roundabout and moved through major streets in Ilorin. Participants waved party flags and sang songs of support.
Many supporters wore APC-branded uniforms and caps with messages like ‘My Vote is for APC’ and ‘#Iwaju LaNlo’ as they danced and marched across the state capital.
In a chat with journalists, Mr. Sai Kayi said the rally aimed to appreciate Governor AbdulRazaq’s achievements, especially in infrastructure, education, and the welfare of workers and pensioners.
He described Mr. Yakubu-Danladi’s selection as the party’s governorship candidate as a move for continuity, based on fairness and justice. He expressed confidence that the new administration would build on the current government’s successes.
“The youth are more than any other age group in this rally. We are gathered to appreciate Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for giving us SYD. SYD is part of our own constituency,” he said.
Mr. Sai Kayi added that the APC is focused on maintaining the current development path, stating that Mr. Yakubu-Danladi has been part of the progress made by the AbdulRazaq administration since 2019.
Call for Assessment of Candidates
Also speaking, the Senior Adviser and Counsellor to the Governor, Sa’adu Salahu, urged voters to ignore opposition campaigns and to judge candidates by their past records and contributions to public service.
He expressed confidence that the administration’s people-oriented programs and infrastructure projects would earn electoral support for the APC and its candidates.
Mr. Salahu noted that Governor AbdulRazaq’s leadership has reduced political violence and encouraged political tolerance, unlike the approach of past governments.
“We can have political differences, but you will agree with me that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has never encouraged political thuggery, in contrast to the style of the past government,” he said.
He dismissed any chance of a rainbow coalition gaining ground in Kwara, insisting that the APC is sure of winning the 2027 elections across the state.
The governor’s aide called on party members to continue peaceful mobilization and step up door-to-door campaigns to secure votes for the party.
Mobilizing for Votes
Similarly, the Director-General of the APC Campaign Council (Central), Abdulrazaq Jiddah, praised party members for their turnout and urged eligible voters to collect their Permanent Voter Cards when the time comes.
The General Manager of the Kwara State Social Investment Programme, Abdulwasiu Tejidini, said the turnout of men, women, and youths showed increasing support for the APC and its development goals.
“Today, Kwara Central has spoken. The whole Kwara has spoken, because the good work of His Excellency, the Governor of Kwara State, has really spoken for itself,” Tejidini said, comparing the development agenda of President Tinubu with that of the Kwara State Government.
A former APC House of Assembly aspirant for Share/Oke-Ode Constituency, Abdulrasheed Akogun, said the party’s decision to zone its governorship ticket to Kwara North is a significant political achievement for the region.
Mr. Akogun praised Governor AbdulRazaq for his commitment to equity, fairness, and justice. He added that the governor created a fair environment for party members to pursue their ambitions during the primaries, regardless of their political backgrounds.
Other notable attendees at the rally included the wife of the governorship candidate, Sa’adat Yakubu-Danladi; lawmakers and candidates Fatima Arinola Lawal and Mariam Yusuf Aladi; Ghali Alaya; the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Bashir Adigun; council chairmen from the local government areas involved; and other APC leaders.
