The Kwara State Police have confirmed they arrested four suspected robbers and recovered a stolen motorcycle. This happened after a violent attack on two commuters along the Ali Weree Camp area in Ifelodun Local Government.

The police said the suspects were caught after a quick operation. This operation involved police officers working with the National Forest Security Service in the area.

Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the police spokesperson, said this incident took place on Thursday around 8pm. Armed men attacked two people returning from the market.

Ejire-Adeyemi explained that the attackers had sticks and cutlasses. They hurt the victims before taking their motorcycle and running away.

She said, “On 4th June 2026 at about 2000hrs, two commuters returning from a market were attacked by a group of armed men wielding sticks and cutlasses along the Ali Weree Camp axis of Ifelodun Local Government Area. The assailants inflicted injuries on the victims and forcefully dispossessed them of their motorcycle before fleeing the scene.”

The police spokesperson mentioned that after getting the report, police officers quickly started a coordinated operation with the National Forest Security Service. This led to the recovery of the stolen motorcycle and the arrest of four suspects.

“Upon receipt of the report, operatives immediately launched a coordinated operation in collaboration with personnel of the National Forest Security Service operating within the area,” she said.

“The operation led to the recovery of the stolen motorcycle and the arrest of four suspects identified as Umaru Haruna, Habibu Kale, Kire Yelwa, and Iliyasu Gambo,” she added.

Ejire-Adeyemi said the early investigations showed that the suspects worked together during the robbery. She also noted that another suspect named Sumo is believed to be the gang leader and is still on the run.

“Investigation further revealed that one Sumo, identified as the leader of the criminal gang and believed to be in possession of the group’s weapons, remains at large,” she said.

“Tactical and intelligence-driven efforts have been intensified to apprehend the suspect and recover any arms in his possession,” she added.

In response to this situation, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ojo Adekimi, praised the quick action of the police and their teamwork with the National Forest Security Service. He said this operation shows the police's commitment to fighting crime.

He stated, “The successful recovery of the stolen motorcycle and arrest of the suspects reflects the operational directives and crime-fighting vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, aimed at strengthening intelligence-led policing and enhancing public safety across the country.”

The police said they are still investigating. They assured residents that they are working to catch the fleeing gang leader and recover any weapons. The arrested suspects will face charges once the investigations are complete.
