The Labour Party in Anambra State has wrapped up its primary elections for the 2027 general elections. They have chosen candidates for both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

In a statement to newsmen in Awka on Thursday, Peter Okoye, the Chairman of the state’s Labour Party, shared that the voting took place using the Option A4 system. He noted that many members, delegates, aspirants, and stakeholders took part in the process.

Okoye said the primary elections went smoothly and were transparent. He mentioned that this reflects the party’s dedication to internal democracy and getting grassroots involvement.

He promised the candidates that the party leaders and members would put in the effort needed to ensure their victory in the upcoming 2027 elections.

Okoye added that all candidates were officially ratified by a majority of members and delegates during a special nomination congress. This was done according to the Labour Party Constitution, the Electoral Act of 2026, and the Labour Party Electoral Guidelines of 2026.

He said, “We expressed joy that the exercise was peaceful and transparent and reflected the party’s commitment to internal democracy and grassroots participation.

“The exercise was conducted through the ‘Option A4’ voting system, and it witnessed strong participation by our members, delegates, aspirants, and stakeholders.

“We assure our candidates that the leadership and members of the party will work hard to secure victory for all of them during the 2027 general elections.”

The candidates chosen for the Senate and House of Representatives include Venerable Tochukwu Ikezue for Anambra Central Senatorial District, Chief Ikenna Okafor for Nnewi North, Nnewi South, and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency, Mrs Ifeoma Obiokoye for Anaocha, Dunukofia, and Njikoka Federal Constituency, and Ujunwa Onyekachi for Awka North and South Federal Constituency.

Mr Iduma-Christian Mayor, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee and Returning Officer for the primaries, announced the winners. He stated that the candidates ran as the only aspirants from the party.

Officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission monitored the exercise closely.

Venerable Tochukwu Ikezue, the party’s candidate for Anambra Central Senatorial District, thanked INEC for their oversight. He promised that if elected in the 2027 elections, he would address the erosion issues affecting the area, empower many residents, and provide accessible and inclusive leadership.
