The Lagos State Government has charged over 100 people at the Lagos State Special Offences Mobile Court in Bolade, Oshodi. They are facing accusations of disturbing public peace and other offences in Victoria Island, Lekki, and Ajah areas.
According to a statement from the state government on Monday, the accused are also charged with using government property for personal gain and acting in ways that could disrupt law and order.
Oluwabusola Omotunde, the prosecutor representing the Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, said the suspects were arrested between 2am and 4am on Friday, September 4, 2026. This happened along the Victoria Island-Lekki-Ajah route.
The charges against the suspects include breaching the peace and unlawfully taking government property for personal use.
During the court session, some of the suspects admitted guilt, while others denied the charges.
Chief Magistrate F.J. Adefioye, who led the proceedings, stressed the importance of deterrent measures while ensuring proper legal processes are followed.
The magistrate sentenced those who pleaded guilty to the first and second counts to one month and two months of community service or jail time, respectively. These sentences will be served one after the other.
Those who pleaded not guilty were kept in custody but were granted bail with two sureties each.
Olufemi Adekunle, the Mobile Court Coordinator, assured that the government is committed to keeping law and order. He also mentioned the need to protect legitimate businesses and residents in the state.
He stated, “Similar Mobile Court sittings will continue across the state to ensure that offenders are prosecuted quickly and that public spaces remain safe for all.”
This development is part of the ongoing work of the Lagos State Special Offences Mobile Court, which addresses public order, environmental issues, traffic violations, and other offences under its jurisdiction.
