Lagos man killed over lost phone

A young man known as Azeez has been killed by suspected cultists after a fight over a missing phone in Oko-Oba, Agege, Lagos State.

A police source told PUNCH Metro on Sunday that this happened on Monday, August 3.

The source said Azeez got into an argument with some colleagues about a missing phone after they went to a party.

The argument turned violent when some of the suspected cultists, who were said to be his friends, attacked Azeez.

“We received a report that he died from the beating he got from some suspected cultists who are believed to be his friends. The argument was about a missing phone,” the source said.

The source added that Azeez later died from the injuries he got during the attack.

An anti-cultism group called Naija Confra shared more details about the incident on Saturday. They said it all started on Sunday night, August 2, during a birthday party.

According to Naija Confra, a fight broke out at the party when one Abela allegedly took a phone and gave it to Azeez.

The trouble began when the phone’s owner started looking for it.

Naija Confra claimed that when the owner and his friends confronted Azeez after finding the phone with him, he explained that Abela had asked him to keep it.

“Abela, who was sitting there, denied giving the phone to Azeez, even when others saw him do it. Azeez would not accuse Abela, an NBM leader and his boss, if it was not true,” the platform claimed.

Naija Confra alleged that the phone’s owner and his friends, unable to confront Abela, attacked Azeez before leaving the party.

Later, Azeez confronted Abela about his denial of giving him the phone. This led to another argument and a fresh attack.

The group claimed that suspected members of the Neo-Black Movement took Azeez to another location, where they assaulted him.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, could not be reached for comments. Calls to her phone went unanswered.

A text message sent to her had also not received a reply as of this report.
