A 38-year-old man, known as Michael, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police for allegedly assaulting his 13-year-old stepdaughter. Another suspect has also been taken into custody in connection with the case.

Reports say the girl had been living with Michael, and she faced repeated abuse before the police arrested him in Agege on Sunday. Sources from the community revealed that the girl had been running away from home before returning to her biological father, where she told him about the abuse.

One source, who wished to remain anonymous due to the sensitive nature of the case, mentioned that the girl's father reported the situation to the police at a station in Ketu. This report led to further actions from the police.

After Michael's arrest, the police also arrested another man, who they described as the survivor’s “boyfriend.” This development raised more concerns in the community about the girl's safety and wellbeing.

Abimbola Adebisi, the state Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrests during a phone interview on Monday. She stated that both suspects are in custody while the victim received medical attention.

“The case was reported yesterday evening (Sunday); both the stepfather and the boyfriend were arrested and detained while the victim was taken to Mirabel Centre for medical examination and will be transferred to Gender Ikeja tomorrow morning (Tuesday) for further investigation,” she explained.
