The Lagos State Security Trust Fund has given Divisional Police Officers, area commanders, and tactical squad commanders in the state bulletproof vests and ballistic helmets. This move aims to boost their safety and security response.
The LSSTF shared this news in a statement to PUNCH Metro on Sunday.
The statement said this effort shows Lagos State’s dedication to improving its security system amid growing national security worries.
“Earlier today, Friday 5th June, following the orders of the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Gov. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, the Executive Secretary/CEO of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, LSSTF, Ayodele Ogunsan, handed out bulletproof vests and ballistic helmets to all Divisional Police Officers, Area Commanders, and Tactical Squad Commanders across Lagos. This shows that Lagos has what it takes to keep its reputation as one of the safest places for business and living in Nigeria,” the statement said.
During the presentation ceremony, Dr Ayodele Ogunsan, the Executive Secretary/CEO of LSSTF, assured residents that Lagos is safe and ready to tackle any threats to public safety.
“For those who want to do evil, Lagos is not the place. Our duty is to protect this state, and we will do that with all our strength.”
Ogunsan explained that the equipment was given to senior police officers to strengthen leadership at the operational level.
“In response to the trust that Lagosians have in us, we are empowering the agency that they have put in charge of their safety. The job is clear, to secure Lagos. We are doing this with renewed strength and determination because these times are tough.”
He added that this initiative is part of ongoing efforts to equip all security agencies in the state.
“We have been equipping security agencies for several months now, not just the police but all security formations in Lagos. However, we believe leadership is key. That is why we are presenting these items to all DPOs, Area Commanders, and Tactical Squad Commanders today.”
Ogunsan also praised Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his ongoing support for security in the state.
“We have invested a lot in security thanks to the support of Lagosians and under the leadership of our capable Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The governor shows strong commitment to the safety of residents.”
He thanked Lagos residents for their contributions to the LSSTF’s efforts.
“Our mission is clear. We were created to support all security agencies in Lagos, especially the police, who handle internal security. But first, we must thank Lagosians for providing the resources that help us buy these security assets.”
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Fatai Tijani, praised the initiative and called it a boost to operational effectiveness.
“To whom much is given, much is expected. Lagosians should expect nothing less than excellence from us. With the great support we continue to receive from the Lagos State Government and the LSSTF, led by Dr Ogunsan, we are ready for battle and fully committed to ensuring the safety and security of every Lagos resident.
