The Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN) kicked off the 2026 Women’s Golf Day with a lively 9-hole shotgun tournament at the IE Ibas Golf Course in Abuja. Participants showed up in red and white outfits, turning the course into a colorful scene to celebrate women in golf. The event started at 8:00 am yesterday and featured sports, friendship, and a celebration of sisterhood.
In a message of goodwill, LGAN President, Dr. Lami Ahmed, congratulated members and said the day meant more than just sports. “On this special occasion of Women’s Golf Day, I bring warm greetings and heartfelt appreciation to every LGAN member for your passion and commitment to the growth of women’s golf in Nigeria,” she stated. “This day reminds us why we came together as an association to create a space where women can connect, grow, and lead through golf. This year’s theme, ‘Engage, Empower, Support,’ speaks directly to our purpose.” She urged members to see golf not only as competition but also as a chance for mentorship, unity, and support. “Let us carry the true spirit of the game on and off the course. When we win with grace and lose with dignity, we inspire more women and girls to pick up a club,” she added.
Dr. Ahmed also called on members to maintain the values and reputation of the association. “Hold LGAN in high esteem. Protect its image in your words, your conduct, and your fellowship. It is through your attitude that we keep this association strong, respected, and attractive to new members.” She praised the Competition Secretary, Diana Osmond, for her work in organizing the event, along with the Zonal Vice Presidents and Executive Committee members for their support. To make the celebration more exciting, male golfers were invited as special guests of honour. Organizers believe this will add to the fun and festive atmosphere of the day.
