Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, who is also the presidential candidate for the Allied Peoples Movement in 2027, has urged his opponents to show their physical stamina by jumping off a stage. He made this statement during a political event in Akure, Ondo State, on Thursday.
Speaking at the South-West Presidential Campaign Town Hall Meeting, Makinde said he wants to focus on energy and the ability to handle the demands of leadership. He does not want to make age a topic in this election.
He challenged other presidential candidates to match his demonstration, asking supporters to judge them based on their physical ability.
"While I will not make age an issue of this campaign, I will make energy, having energy, being able to stay up late, have the rigours, have the energy to deal with the challenges that we’re faced as a country," the governor stated.
He added, "So please, when they bring their own presidential candidate, let the candidate come here and also jump down! If they can do that, vote for them!"
The crowd cheered and chanted as Makinde jumped down from the stage during the event at the Ondo State International Conference Centre, known as The Dome.
His comments came as the APM introduced its policy framework for the 2027 general election. Makinde presented a four-point agenda under the party’s "RESET Nigeria" platform.
The agenda focuses on the economy, education, security, and socio-political development. These areas are seen as crucial for Nigeria's progress.
Makinde also took the chance to criticise President Bola Tinubu’s government, claiming it has not fulfilled its promises to Nigerians.
He believes that the 2027 election is a chance for Nigerians to reject the current administration. He pointed out issues like electricity supply and rising fuel prices as challenges that the government has not handled well.
The APM candidate aims to position his party as an alternative to the APC and other political parties, looking to unite opposition forces around his presidential bid.
Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, who was present at the meeting, expressed confidence in the APM’s chances, calling it a significant opposition movement.
