Nigeria's national netball team faced a tough loss at the Africa Netball Cup and Netball World Cup Sydney 2027 Qualifiers. The team lost 82, 22 to Malawi in their Pool 2 match in Nairobi on Monday.
With this win, Malawi kept their strong start in the qualifying campaign. They also secured their spot at the 2027 Netball World Cup in Sydney. The Africa qualifiers are taking place in Kenya from September 19 to 26, with Nigeria among the 10 teams competing.
Malawi took charge right from the start. They jumped to a 21, 6 lead after the first quarter. The Green Hawks had a hard time defending against Malawi’s strong attack. By half-time, Malawi extended their lead to 40, 11, putting Nigeria in a tough position for the second half.
Things got even tougher in the third quarter. Malawi scored 23 goals while Nigeria managed just three. This brought the score to 63, 14. In the final quarter, Malawi scored another 19 goals, ending the match with a stunning 82, 22 victory. That gave them a winning margin of 60 goals.

For Nigeria, this defeat comes after earlier losses to Kenya (61, 40) and Uganda (68, 30) in Pool 2.

World Netball has noted that South Africa and Uganda have already qualified for Sydney 2027 based on their world ranking. The Africa qualifier will decide which other teams join them at the tournament.
