Mark van Bommel is the new head coach for Belgium

Mark van Bommel has agreed to be the new head coach for Belgium. His contract will keep him in charge until June 2028.

The Dutchman will take over from Rudi Garcia after Belgium’s FIFA World Cup journey in 2026.

Contracts are not signed yet, but everyone involved has come to an agreement. The official announcement will come after the final paperwork is sorted out.

Fabrizio Romano, a well-known transfer journalist, confirmed this news on X on Wednesday. He said, “Mark van Bommel as new Belgium head coach, here we go! Deal in place until June 2028 for van Bommel, ready to replace Rudi Garcia.”

This will be Van Bommel’s first job as an international manager. He has had a successful career at club level.

The former captain of the Netherlands has managed teams like PSV Eindhoven, VfL Wolfsburg, and Royal Antwerp. At Antwerp, he led the team to win both the league and cup in the 2022, 23 season.

Belgium hopes that Van Bommel can lead the Red Devils into a fresh start. They are getting ready for UEFA Euro 2028 qualification and are also working on rebuilding the national team.

Belgium’s campaign in the 2026 FIFA World Cup ended at the quarter-finals. The Red Devils showed some good moments but lost to Spain in the end.
