France captain and Real Madrid player, Kylian Mbappé, is now the FIFA World Cup’s all-time leading scorer. He finished the 2026 tournament with 22 goals.
FIFA released the updated scoring chart after the 2026 World Cup ended in the United States on Sunday. Mbappé is now ahead of Argentina captain Lionel Messi, who ended his World Cup career with 21 goals.
Mbappé reached this achievement in just 22 World Cup matches. Messi scored his 21 goals over a record 34 matches across six World Cups.
Former Germany striker Miroslav Klose held the record for over ten years with 16 goals. He is now third on the all-time list.
Brazil legend Ronaldo is in fourth place with 15 goals from 19 matches. Germany’s Gerd Müller and England captain Harry Kane are both in fifth place with 14 goals each. Müller did this in only 13 matches, while Kane reached 14 goals in 18 appearances.
France’s Just Fontaine is also a notable name. He scored 13 goals in just six matches during the 1958 World Cup.
Brazil icon Pelé is eighth on the list with 12 goals in 14 World Cup matches.
Germany’s Jurgen Klinsmann, Hungary’s Sandor Kocsis, and Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo all have 11 goals. Klinsmann scored his goals in 17 matches, Kocsis in just five games, while Cristiano Ronaldo finished with 11 goals in 27 matches.
