Real Madrid defender Ferland Mendy will go to court after one of his dogs reportedly attacked a teenager and two other dogs. This happened when the dogs escaped from his home, according to reports from Spain on Tuesday.
A private prosecution is asking for Mendy to get a six-month prison sentence for causing injury through negligence. They are also seeking fines. A court in Madrid shared this information in a document dated January 7, which was seen by AFP.
The public prosecutor’s office is asking for fines for a minor offence of causing injury. Spanish media reported that the incident occurred in January 2023. Four dogs belonging to Mendy got out of his house in the wealthy Madrid suburb of Alcobendas. This happened because the gate was left open after a car came in.
Reports say that one of Mendy's dogs attacked another woman's dog, causing injuries that led to the dog being put down. A 17-year-old boy tried to help and was bitten. The boy was walking a relative's dog at the time.
Mendy, who is 31 years old, joined Real Madrid in 2019 from Lyon in France. His career has faced several interruptions due to injuries.
