The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has announced that over 27,000 personnel in Nigeria's paramilitary services will be promoted.
Mr Tunji-Ojo also mentioned that the recruitment portal will open from 28 October to 13 November for candidates who have completed the oral interview stage.
He shared this information in a Facebook post on Friday after a meeting of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB).
The minister noted that the board has approved a healthcare policy framework aimed at improving the health and welfare of personnel in these services.
He stated that the federal government is committed to recruiting 120,000 young Nigerians into the services during President Bola Tinubu’s first term. The current recruitment exercise will take in the first group of 30,000 candidates.
The four services involved are the Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Fire Service, and Nigerian Correctional Service.
The recent promotions come after an earlier exercise in December 2025, when the board approved promotions for 24,202 senior officers across these agencies. The Correctional Service had 11,426 promotions, the Civil Defence Corps had 5,859, the Immigration Service had 4,336, and the Fire Service had 2,581.
According to Mr Tunji-Ojo, the recent approvals mean that over 100,000 personnel have been promoted across these services since Mr Tinubu took office in 2023.
He mentioned that more than 32,000 officers were promoted in 2023, over 20,000 in 2024, and more than 24,000 in 2025, with over 27,000 approved for promotion in 2026.
In August 2025, the minister reported that the government had cleared the backlog of promotions, with over 50,000 officers promoted in two years.
During the CDCFIB meeting today, we made important decisions to improve career growth and welfare for personnel in our paramilitary agencies.
In a significant move to boost morale and honor good service, the Board has approved the promotion of over 27,000 officers across our four services. To further assist our workforce, we have validated a healthcare policy framework aimed at promoting the health and overall well-being of all officers.
Regarding recruitment, we reiterated the Federal Government’s plan to enlist 120,000 young Nigerians into our paramilitary services during our first term. The portal for the first batch of 30,000 candidates will be open from 28th October to 13th November 2026 for those who have completed the oral interview.
With this recent exercise, total promotions across the paramilitary agencies under the Ministry of Interior since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu took office now exceed 100,000 officers. This includes over 32,000 officers promoted in 2023, over 20,000 in 2024, more than 24,000 in 2025, and the recently approved over 27,000 in 2026.
