Hamburg's coach Merlin Polzin says Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi is back in full training. He and fellow forward Yussuf Poulsen could play in Saturday's Bundesliga match against Hoffenheim, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
In his pre-match press conference, Polzin confirmed that both players had returned to full training after injury worries raised questions about their availability for the weekend.
“Both have trained fully with the team today and are definitely options for the squad,” the Hamburg coach said, as reported by Kicker.
Moffi’s comeback is crucial for Hamburg, who have only won once in their first four Bundesliga matches this season. Their only victory was against FC Köln, where they won 2-1. Moffi played a short time in that match as he continued his recovery.
The 27-year-old moved to Hamburg from French club Nice earlier this summer. The transfer was for about €2.5m as he looked for a new beginning after his time in Ligue 1 soured despite starting well.
But injuries have slowed his adjustment in Germany. Moffi missed pre-season training because he arrived just before the season began. He also had to skip a friendly against Copenhagen during the international break due to an injury.
This injury kept him out of Nigeria’s recent matches for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau. That meant he missed chances to get important playing time.
Though he played against Köln, Moffi has not scored for Hamburg yet. He is keen to make a bigger impact as he settles into his new team.
His return gives Polzin another option in attack before the Hoffenheim match. Hamburg is hoping to grab their second league win and climb higher in the Bundesliga table.
