What began as a call for justice over the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, has turned into a public fight. This involves social media activist Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, rapper Zlatan Ibile, and Afrobeats star Davido.
From controversial song lyrics to cryptic posts on social media, the clash has brought up old issues and damaged relationships.
At the center of this latest drama is Zlatan’s song, INFERNO, featuring Peruzzi and Shoday. A line from the song has been seen as a jab at VDM. Zlatan raps, “I am not Vincent, I can’t masturbate.”
Many listeners took this lyric as a dig at VDM, who has previously commented publicly about masturbation. Though Zlatan has not confirmed that the line targets VDM, it has reignited their beef.
VDM responded by mocking Zlatan’s wedding promo and album publicity. In one of his posts, he said, “Someone who did a whole wedding because he wanted to promote his album; the album did not go viral, nor did the wedding.”
He also dared Zlatan to keep INFERNO at number one on Apple Music Nigeria for a whole month.
The situation got even more complicated when Davido was seen singing along to the disputed lyric at Zlatan’s wedding welcome party in Morocco. This moment seemed to upset VDM, who had earlier mentioned his friendship with Davido. He claimed Davido followed him on social media in 2024, which improved their relationship.
But VDM alleged that their friendship soured when he found WhatsApp chats showing that some people in Davido’s circle were planning to arrest him over his activism about Mohbad’s death. He also claimed he tried to contact Davido for clarification but got no response. These allegations have not been confirmed.
VDM had also claimed that Davido and some associates offered him N50 million to support the singer’s uncle, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, politically. This claim is still unverified.
After Davido appeared at Zlatan’s wedding, VDM questioned Davido’s role in the fight and his claims of generosity. Zlatan seemed to respond through a cryptic post on X, stating, “You can’t complain about someone giving you a taste of your own medicine when you were the one who prescribed the dose.”
VDM shot back, mocking Zlatan for taking a break from his wedding activities to post about him. The activist later took the beef to music, sharing a preview of a diss track titled On My Knees on Instagram on November 4. This track appears to target Davido and includes Zlatan’s slang, “kapaichumarimarichupako.”
As of November 5, the song has not been made available on streaming platforms.
Beyond these exchanges, the fight has also brought back memories of the tension between VDM and Zlatan after Mohbad’s death in September 2023. At that time, VDM repeatedly challenged Zlatan to speak out about what he knew regarding the circumstances of Mohbad’s death.
The preview of the diss track has sparked mixed reactions online. Some users support VDM’s musical response, while others question why he is dragging Davido further into this fight.
