British-Nigerian heavyweight boxer Moses Itauma has had his next fight pushed back for the second time. Promoter Frank Warren is now looking at late August as the best time for Itauma's return, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
Itauma was first set to fight on July 25. That date was changed to August 8 to avoid overlapping with Anthony Joshua’s fight against Kristian Prenga.
But now that date is not possible either. Warren has now said that late August, probably August 22 or August 29, will be the new target.
"We have been trying to get it done over the last few weeks. It’s not that it is an issue; it is just that it was a matter of getting us all together. And we should be in a position to announce the fight sometime next week, I hope. It will be the back end of August," Warren told iFL TV.
The 21-year-old Itauma is expected to fight Croatian boxer Filip Hrgovic. This matchup will be Itauma's biggest challenge so far.
Hrgovic is ranked in the global top ten in heavyweight boxing. He has a record of 20 wins and 1 loss. His only defeat was in 2024 when he lost by an eighth-round stoppage due to cuts against current WBO heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois.
Hrgovic has impressive wins over boxers like Zhilei Zhang and Joe Joyce. Many see him as a strong contender for a world title. Last month, he won against Dave Allen in three rounds during a Queensberry Promotions event in Doncaster.
Allen, who faced Hrgovic, believes the Croatian will have a tough time dealing with Itauma's speed. "I think Itauma might be too fast for him, just too fast. But you have to be a good one to beat him. He’s very good, better than I thought," Allen said on his YouTube channel.
Hrgovic must fight either Itauma, Agit Kabayel, Dubois, or Fabio Wardley next. Dubois and Wardley are set for a rematch later this year. Kabayel is waiting for his chance at Oleksandr Usyk's title, making Itauma the only realistic option for Hrgovic.
The southpaw from Chatham has moved quickly through the heavyweight ranks. He is currently 14-0, and his latest fight was a five-round win over Jermaine Franklin in March. This victory has strengthened his reputation as one of the most exciting young heavyweights in boxing.
