British-Nigerian heavyweight Anthony Joshua has said he is open to fighting fellow British-Nigerian Moses Itauma after his next two matches, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
In an interview with Fight Hub TV, Joshua, a two-time world heavyweight champion, was asked if he would fight the 21-year-old Itauma. Itauma is seen as a strong contender for the heavyweight title.
“Let me get these two out of the way, and 100% I would fight Itauma. Yeah, man. Why not, bro? Let’s go. So many great opportunities are still presenting themselves,” Joshua said. He was talking about his upcoming fights against Kristian Prenga and Tyson Fury.
Joshua will face Albanian heavyweight Prenga in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on July 25. He is also set to fight Fury in November.
If Joshua wins these two bouts, a fight with Itauma could happen in the first half of 2027.
Itauma has been impressive in the heavyweight division, winning all 14 of his fights without losing. None of his matches have lasted more than 18 minutes, raising questions about his stamina and ability to take a hit.
We might get some answers in August when Itauma is expected to fight Croatian contender Filip Hrgovic. This match will be the biggest test of his career so far.
If Itauma wins against Hrgovic, he could get a shot at a world title. Names like Frank Sanchez and Murat Gassiev are being talked about as possible opponents for that title fight.
Joshua’s remarks hint that a fight between him and Itauma could be significant for the heavyweight division.
Promoter Frank Warren is likely to announce the Hrgovic fight soon. Late August, probably August 22 or August 29, seems to be the most likely time for this match.
