Real Madrid coach José Mourinho has shared his thoughts before the big La Liga match between Atlético Madrid and Barcelona this weekend.
Fabrizio Romano reported on X that Mourinho would prefer both teams to lose when they clash at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano on Sunday.
“Atletico vs Barcelona? I’d like both of them to lose,” Mourinho said. “Unfortunately that’s not possible. Points will inevitably be dropped, and that’s the best possible news.”
Barcelona is currently at the top of the table with 30 points from 11 matches. Atlético Madrid is right behind with 28 points, while Real Madrid has 27 points. A win for either Atlético or Barcelona would boost their chances for the title. A draw would mean both teams drop points, which would help Madrid’s title hopes.
This match is one of the biggest of the season so far. It features Diego Simeone’s strong Atlético side against Hansi Flick’s high-scoring Barcelona. Both teams are in good form, so Mourinho’s wish for both to lose might be hard to achieve.
Kick-off is set for 21:00 local time on Sunday, 8 November 2026.
