Mr Ibu's family asks Nigerians for help with bills and school fees

The wife of late Nollywood actor John Okafor, known as Mr Ibu, has reached out to Nigerians for help. She said she and her children are having a hard time paying rent, school fees, and other basic needs.

This appeal came in a video chat with content creator King Mitchy on Wednesday. In the video, the actor's wife and children shared their struggles after his death.

With tears in her eyes, the widow explained that they have been without electricity for almost two months. Their power was cut off due to unpaid bills.

She also mentioned that they are using water from a well because of their financial issues. "We fetch water from the well. Because I have not paid the house rent. And they have even cut my lights for two months now. No lights since. We have been like that. Every night we go to look for a place to charge our phones. And... It’s not easy," she said.

One of Mr Ibu's daughters thanked her mother for holding the family together during this tough time. "I want to thank God for my mom. She tries everything she can to feed us, to pay our school fees, to make us happy," she said.

The widow also mentioned that her children might have to drop out of school due to unpaid fees. "Right now, they can’t go to school again. I can even show you the message the school sent me today," she said.

The content creator who held the interview said they are looking for support to help the family with school fees, rent, and to restore their electricity.

Mr Ibu, one of Nigeria's best-loved comic actors, passed away on March 2, 2024, at 62 years old.
